These pieces will last the test of time, you can use them in the oven or on the stove top, hell, you can bring them camping if you wish! Picnics, parties or just everyday meals this range is a staple for any kitchen and gains extra brownie points for being dishwasher safe (We ALL love that !)
A recommended addition to any home and a true design classic.
Readily available through many stores worldwide, for Aussies I found Peters of Kensington to have the best prices 🙂
Today I have a particularly appropriate Autumn post for you!
Verterra is an American company that create this amazing disposable Dinnerware from Fallen Leaves. Yep, you read right, fallen leaves! The dinnerware is created from fallen Palm leaves sourced from plantations combined with a mixture of steam, heat and pressure. The salvaged leaves are an agricultural by-product which would otherwise be burnt, so this is a very nice sustainable solution which is a brilliant alternative to harvesting trees.
The result is these beautiful plates which are durable enough to withstand anything you dish up at your dinner party, without the need for added toxins, bonding agents or glue. They won’t go limp and soggy like those paper plates and they contain no nasties like the plastic versions. And in case you weren’t already impressed, the dinnerware is also oven proof and microwave safe!
After use the plates will naturally biodegrade within two months, completing the natural cycle of a leaf as it composts and returns to the earth. Now that is some stylish, eco dinnerware!
Current obsession, Roundie – the round beach towel by The Beach People!
Loving the Aztec pattern, the fringing, the shape. At 150cm diameter, the towels are large enough for two people to sprawl out on and the perfect shape to catch the shade of a beach umbrella. Made from 100% cotton with a fun, fringed edge they have me completely smitten!
The Beach People are now taking pre-orders for their February delivery as current stock has sold out!! $99 for the Aztec Towel or $139 for the Aztec Towel with leather carry strap.
If you can’t wait, I did find the small version in stock, and for sale, on St Barts for $39.
Have you seen the latest from Dinosaur Designs? They have just collaborated with Australian clothing brand Jac+Jack to create some pretty amazing, high-end beach towels!
These limited edition beach towels are made with organic cotton, which has been hand loomed and dyed by artisans in West Bengal. There are three designs in the collection called The Kiss, Lagoon and Rising Beach, which all feature the unmistakable Dinosaur Designs style of brilliant colour and organic shapes.
$150 seems quite a reasonable price to pay once you know that each towel takes the artisans three days to create on their ancient looms! Wow! Take a peak…

Fanuli has been a steadfast destination for design savvy Australians for many years now and with such an amazing range of famous Italian and Australian Designers under their belt, it will come as no suprise that they are featured in Hermit’s hot picks from Sydney Indesign.
They have recently acquired designs by Antonio Citterio, which where showcased at the Galleria during the trade fair. Let me tell you, I am showing a LOT of restraint when choosing just two items from this Italian designers collection! First is the most deliciously comfortable and stylish Lifesteel leather lounge. The quality leather combined with the feather down seat cushions made this piece a standout and if possible, I would have teleported it straight to my lounge room! This range also includes chairs, modulars and ottomans ensuring there is a perfect combination to fit your space and the framework is available in a variety of finishes.
The second lust worthy design by Citterio was the Infinity Shelving System. A combination of Epoxy-powder-coated metal box shelves with natural-cowhide storage boxes which creates a classy, sophisticated feel. Mix and match the different modules to create a unique shelving unit that meets your storage requirements. The shelves are also available in a range of colours to suit your taste and design style.
Last, but not least, is the beautiful BCN Wood stool by Italian designer Harry&Camilla. Although this design is not new it so so unique and inspiring that I thought you may want to fall in love with it all over again too! The Polyurethane seat has the most amazing curvaceous design and I was particularly taken with the natural beech leg combination. Just stunning!
The BCN Wood Stool is available in a variety of colours and the beech legs can be lacquered to match if you do not fancy the natural finish. The BCN is also available as a fixed high or low seat with steel frame or an adjustable frame, both of which can be used outdoors and feature that iconic folded seat design.
