I was captivated by the stunning ceramic lights by Melbourne based company Porcelume at Decoration + Design.
Each light is created by hand on a potter’s wheel and the dynamic lines on the light’s surface create an illusion, or memory, of the kinetic energy used to create it. Honestly, these lights are seriously beautifully in almost a poetic way.
Southern Ice porcelain is used to create the lights allowing them to be so delicate and fine that they become translucent. Even with the lights off, these pieces have a beautiful, sculptural nature to them but when illuminated, they emit a soft, warm glow which highlights those textural lines on the surface.
Ceramicist Colin had also started playing around with using yacht fixtures and wooden pegs as methods of suspension for these lights and as an added design feature. Unfortunately I don’t have images of this, but if you are interested please contact Porcelume and I’m sure they will be able to discuss this further with you.
