Rarely is a piece of furniture this captivating.

The Samurai Chair by designer Seo Young Moon is optical illusion at its best. Your eyes tell you it is a fragile object, an illusion, yet it is indeed a stable and robust, functional piece. True to it s name , the chair appears sliced, as if a moment in time has been frozen as a samurai sword has sliced through the chair, splitting the form into a fragmented object.

In a world accustomed to photoshop, it feels like a doctored photo, not a real object at all. This is the magic that makes this piece so beautiful, simplicity in conception and execution yet it achieves maximum effect.

Clever, very clever…
